American Language Center
(310) 794-3251

UCLA Extension’s American Language Center offers academic advising. Our advisors assist students by providing information on U.S. colleges, universities, and other advanced study programs, and can provide guidance for transferring from English language programs to UCLA Extension certificate programs or to other schools. Academic advisors also help students with problems related to homesickness, culture shock, and adjusting to U.S. life and culture.

To meet with advisors individually, students can make an appointment at the Lindbrook Center front desk or via the contact information above.

In addition to individual advising, each quarter ALC students interested in further study at UCLA Extension, or at other colleges and universities, are invited to college orientation sessions with guest speakers.

Additional American Language Center Resources:

One-on-one tutoring after school to help with:

  • Writing Assignments
  • Pronunciation
  • Test preparation for TOEFL and IELTS
  • Presentation skills

Get extra conversation practice in your free time.

We will find a volunteer native speaker of English (a UCLA student or a local resident) who wants to meet with you and practice speaking English. This person is also interested in your language and culture and wants to practice speaking your language.

You will contact each other and together decide how often you want to meet and how you will connect. (For example, Skype, FaceTime, Google Hangout, etc.)

Become part of an international learning community at UCLA Extension.
