This course is part of the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science (HSSEAS) Master of Science in Engineering Online (MSOL) program. It is available only to students pre-approved by HSSEAS. See below for more information.
ENGR 188 (82): Business Plan & Strategy (Instructor: Rostamian, F.) The course objectives are for students to: develop a business plan; understand analytical processes required to produce a plan; improve their writing and oral presentation skills; review business plans of other entities and formally present their business plan. Candidate projects can involve a not-for-profit enterprise, startup of a new company, spinoff of a division of an existing company, an acquisition or the creation of a new business unit within an existing enterprise. Particularly discouraged are projects lacking in technical or product risk, projects lacking market risk, franchising or professional service firms (consulting, medical). Fundraising of some magnitude is highly recommended, at least $100,000, for a fully funded plan. Candidate projects may emanate from other departments at UCLA or from outside campus. They need not be just your conception. This course extends the student’s ability to perform primary market research, analyze the environment and competition, assemble and manage the people resource, and build economic and financial models.
